Lindsay:
As for week 2 I ran that 7 miles, and it sucked. I ran it on the treadmill because I'm still too much of a baby to go outside. It was horrible because I had to go to the bathroom 2 times during the run so I had to stop twice so it took me like 90 minutes to do the 7 miles in total (including breaks). I know that this is going to be a problem for me. I always have to poo on my runs. Before the race I'm going to have to do like a warm up run or something so I can get all the poo out. I don't really know. Also I was on my period that week so it kind of suckethed, I was somewhat lacking in the energy department. This week has been a good recovery week, thank goodness for that. The first day I actually beat my 5K time on accident which is an unimpressive time, but I'm keeping track just to monitor my progress. I'm glad we only have to run 5 miles tomorrow! My new shoes came in and they are a little tight around the toe box, but I've yet to have continued problems with the top of my foot. Also I looked online and found a better form. I guess I'm supposed to let my feet flop around when I run and that allows me to get access to the back of my heel. I tried it out and it worked nicely, it uses more of my leg muscles so it's kind of harder but it's worth it. I still have a bit of leftover soreness from the top of my left foot but I can tell that it is healing up nicely. Hooray! I'm excited about this.
My dear, sweet, Traci! Your efforts are COMMENDable! When my foot started hurting just a little bit I was about ready to give up but I did not want to because I wanted to do this thing with you. So I can empathize. Immediately I bought new shoes because that seemed like the easiest way to fix it, I started running slower until it got better and even now if I start feeling anything in any joint or in my foot I slow the sucker down. The pain hasn't come back so it seems to be working. Also the form. The form is helping me out. Also, if we need to extend training, I'd be willing to do that - we could do one that is in the summer or something. I'm too slow anyways. Also the sad tragedy is that I committed to do my long run with the most annoying human in existence. FML

ReplyDeleteI almost missed this comment because it's on the wrong post!
ReplyDeleteI understand where you're coming from, but I think my foot injury is more serious than yours. It's not just from bad shoes. In fact, I have really good shoes. I've been buying the same style for years.
Who are you doing your long run with? That sucks!
Lindsay, if you are having shoe problems you should go to an actual running store and have them record you running on the treadmill and analyze your strike and gate. They will suggest shoes that will work best for you. You may need to alternate between your old shoes and new shoes until you get more accustomed to your new shoes.
DeleteTraci: I am so sorry you hurt your foot skiing. I am eager to see how your next run goes. If it is painful you need to back off for certain and give it time to properly heal. I would suggest again to ice everyday and get a foot massage and ibuprofen to counter the inflammation.
Geez, I was looking for my comment too and I was like, hmm guess it didn't get posted. Didn't find it til tonight! Woops!
ReplyDeleteJessica- Are there any stores in town? If I get desperate enough I'd do that, but for now it seems to be working fine.
Traci- yea, I figured it was worse than mine, I figured it was something to at least think about. My other shoes were fine for me I'd never had problems but I think they were too old/I was going to hard on my feet. But yea, that's suckage :(
I'm going with this guy named Kyle, he asked me to eat dinner with him 4 times in one day. WTF? Owell, I already committed plus I need someone... hopefully he doesn't become too pesty.
hahaha you and Kyle ;)
