I ran 9 miles last Friday. That's the furthest I've ever run outside and that's my first run outside since I started this - needless to say I was horrified. Not only that but I'd agreed to go with this total weirdy- which was also kind of stressful since he's been texting me non-stop all week long and I'm just like ease off dude. Luckily when we were running he didn't act weird at all, he was totally normal and even seemed pretty cool. He's just wayyyyy too clingy. I was really grateful for him though because he helped make it go way faster - which is exactly what you need when you are running for 1 hour and 40 minutes. That's how long it took to do the 9 miles, which was how long I was hoping it would take because that's 9 11 minute miles (5.4 mph) which is slower than what I usually do (10 minute miles) but I wanted to have a good pace so I wouldn't wear myself out. It proved to be excellent. I was actually really impressed with myself because I was able to talk for the whole time while maintaining that pace which, I remember the two times I went 6 miles with Traci in the past I was wheezing the whole way and she was just talking at me. So that was big improvement, however with Traci we were probably going faster.. I don't know. We actually went a little bit faster than 5,.4 because we had to stop at Albertsons because he had to go to the bathroom and I didn't stop the clock for that because I figured it would be artificial since were resting during that time. Speaking of the bathroom, actually I ran an extra mile because while I was waiting for him to get out of class at Reeds, I ran for a mile for a warm up so that I could hopefully go to the bathroom before we ran. I ran at a pace of 7 mph for a while because I wanted to get to a bathroom point fast and I figured the more shaking around I did the faster. The heavens blessed me and I was able to go before and I didn't have to go at all during the 9 miles of running which would have been absolutely horrible. So I'm probably always going to have to do an extra mile whenever I run outside so that way I don't sabotage myself. Another good thing about bringing this Kyle fellow along was that he hasn't had a car most of his life and has always walked or biked wherever he goes which I thought was pretty cool, so he knew a lot of mile markers of how far certain distances where. He would say things like from here to there it's 1.7 miles lol because he'd done it a lot. He used to walk/bike to places like golden coral an mystique from where he lives on campus every day which I think is pretty cool. I know that what he says is true because I've seen him out walking a few times in the past. It was especially useful because he helped map out our 9 mile run as we went because I didn't really have a plan as to where to go, we just went. Our route started at Reeds gym then we went past the hospital and then down center street then over onto main then Benton over to 5th down til Ross park then we went onto 4th and back up to Reeds. I felt like we just ran the whole border of campus, it was pretty cool. At 7.5 miles I did some bad math and told him we still had 2.5 miles left to go because I was stupid and was thinking about 10 miles, so we went another .5 miles before heading back so we ended up finishing our 9 miles at like tastee treat and then we walked up to Reeds. It would have been perfect if I wouldn't have messed it all up. Oh well, it was kind of nice because we went from thinking we had 2 miles left to only having one, which made us really happy. There were points in the run where I could tell Kyle just wanted to speed ahead, which I warned him that he would be too fast for me. He seemed like he was starting to get impatient, but then other times he was tired like me, so I think he's just bad at pacing himself. I think he could have gone faster for sure, but he probably would have wore himself out before being able to finish the 9 miles, so we did good together. The bad thing is that before too long he's going to be speeding ahead of me because I gave him a copy of my running schedule and he is doing the training now too and this is only the 4th week and he just started this week. I need him for 12 more weeks! Oh well, he'll just have to stick with me if he wants to run with me. He certainly could have been worse. A lot of guys would have just left me in the dust... which he will probably do when he gets faster. He still has been so obsessive with his texting since then which is ugh. I don't have the energy for that. Oh wellllllllll.
Today I have to run 10 miles today...I'm too pansy to run out in the snow so we are going to run at ISU's track.
